Neighbourly Wine Co. - Our Story

Hi there! We are Mic and Jonny - owners, grape growers,

and winemakers here at Neighbourly Wine Co.

Our backgrounds in wine, hospitality, and restaurants

brought each of us to the Okanagan Valley where we met

while working together in a winery tasting room. Our

shared love for food and wine, combined with our roots

in hospitality (and taste in music) made us the best of

friends right from the start! Over the years, we have

explored the many avenues of the wine industry, and

when we were given the opportunity to take over this

farm in 2021…we packed up our lives in the Okanagan

and headed for Vancouver Island.

Newly married and brand new to the wine scene on the Saanich Peninsula, we fell in love with the region. It was truly amazing to experience the warm welcome from our industry peers, neighbours, and strangers. This special feeling is what inspired the name Neighbourly Wine Co.

What we are growing

Due to our geography and cool, maritime growing conditions, we put a strong emphasis on growing grapes that reliably ripen in our climate and making wines that reflect our regional style. This includes a mix of traditional wine grapes (Vitis Vinifera) and Hybrid grapes which are suited for our cooler climate and shorter seasons, typically resulting in wines full of exuberant aromatics, freshness and finesse.

We have a lot of fun playing around with the following varieties of grapes:

Pinot Gris
Ortega
Gewürztraminer
Siegerrebe
L’Acadie Blanc
Pinot Noir
Maréchal Foch
Léon Millot
Regent
Marquette

Our Vision

Our vision is simple — we are deeply committed to growing the highest quality grapes that we possibly can each year, and to producing wines that showcase Vancouver Island’s unique grape growing potential. Neighbourly Wine Co. is a love letter to our region, our community, and the convivial nature of good food, good wine, and good company.

Neighbourly is a space where everyone is welcome as they are, regardless of their level of wine knowledge. It’s a place in which to tell stories, to share experiences and to learn about what makes our region so special. Come and see for yourself why we love doing what we do!

Prohibition Winery

Before it became Prohibition Vineyard, our estate was known as the Dragonfly Hill Winery, a historic winery with a legacy deeply rooted in the rich winemaking tradition of British Columbia.

Established in 1995 the Old Dragonfly Hill Winery played a significant role in shaping the local wine industry, producing
exceptional wines that captured the essence of the Vancouver Island wine.

Today, Prohibition Vineyard proudly continues the legacy of the past Dragonfly Hill Winery, paying homage to its history while embracing a vision of crafting wines that reflect the spirit of the past with a modern twist. Our vineyard stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of those who came before us, and we invite you to join us on a journey through time with every sip of our carefully crafted wines.

Crafting Fine Wines, Embracing the Prohibition Spirit.

Located at 6130 Old W. Saanich Rd. in the picturesque city of Victoria, British Columbia, RD Vineyard - Prohibition Vineyard invites you to step back in time and experience the essence of the Prohibition era through our exquisite wines.
